Executive Summary

​I am an educator with thirteen years experience teaching single-subject math courses; career technical education courses in the engineering, energy, and information technology sectors; and professional training with adult learners. I have extensive technical writing experience as primary and collateral duties through my time in the nuclear Navy, private industry jobs, and in my teaching career. I have completed a master's degree and a certificate program in advanced education leadership, which includes managing evidence, leading learning, and driving change. I am moving away from the classroom to use my diverse experience and education to develop curriculum, design instruction for adult learners, and manage learning and development for companies.

Work Experience

Computer Science and Math Teacher, Edison High School
Stockton Unified School District - Stockton, CA
August 2016 to Present
  1. Created a viable computer science pathway of Career Technical Education and Advanced Placement courses to simultaneously prepare students for the rigor of college-level courses and provide them with the technical skills needed for careers in computer science and information technology right out of high school. Developed the curriculum used for each course in the program by creating units and lessons within them from the disparate sets of computer science and cybersecurity standards and frameworks.
  2. Established relationships with community leaders to promote the pathway and gain stakeholders, including industry and subject-matter experts, to help tie the coursework to the needs and desires of the community to gain future workers with the requisite skills and mindset.
  3. Used the ADDIE and Agile methodologies to design instruction for math and computer science courses, respectively. Reimagined both in-person and virtual classroom environments as focused around formal and informal learning including both skills and applications of them for experiential learning.
  4. Analyzed formative and summative data to guide instructional design and practice specific to meet students' needs and the needs of the math and computer science programs as communicated by stakeholders in needs analyses. Analyzed formative and summative evaluation data to guide curriculum development and instructional design for the same reasons.

  1. Collaborated with subject-matter experts to perform a needs assessment of learners in the university's specific summer program. Performed needs analysis to determine what content should be taught, what form instruction should take, and what results a successful program would present.
  2. Designed instruction over a range of introductory computer science topics using a successive approximation model so that each student could find engaging content at their individual level and could work at their own pace.
  3. Conducted individualized in-person lessons to students, using formative and summative data to further personalize instruction.

  1. Collaborated as part of a professional learning community to design and deliver instructional content aligned with the California Common Core State Standards and school and community needs.
  2. Aided fellow instructors in creating online course content and loading content into the district's Learning Management System, mentoring higher-term staff in newer instructional hardware and software.

  1. Created, standardized, and reviewed conceptual design, detailed design documents, and course materials for a variety of math courses from pre-algebra to calculus, including templates still used today.

Career and Technical Education Teacher
San Joaquin County Office of Education - Stockton, CA
December 2010 to May 2011
  1. Gained two Career and Technical Education credentials in order to complete this assignment and reflect years of military and industry experience in the content areas.
  2. Designed curriculum for and taught the New Energy Academy course, grades 10 to 12, which concentrated on the different types of energy production used throughout the world and on the function and future roles of clean-energy production methods.
  3. Designed curriculum for and taught the Pre-Engineering course, grade 9, which concentrated on the basics of mechanical, electrical, civil, and biomedical engineering.
  4. Coursework for both courses used techniques of project-based learning to provide students with authentic learning experiences, including using 2D and 3D design software to model objects and systems that exist in the real world.
  5. Served as member of California Statewide Career Technical Review Team for the Energy and Utilities sector, where we revised the state content standards for the Energy and Utilities content area.
Engineering Department Training Assistant (USS Bremerton)
U.S. Navy - Pearl Harbor Naval Station, HI
August 2003 to January 2006
  1. Designed and implemented an electrical safety program to bring the ship into standards and to ensure that all training and qualification requirements were met.
  2. Selected as the only 2nd-Class Petty Officer to design and administer training for the [Nuclear] Engineering Department and the Electrical Division based on a high level of knowledge in training topics related to both.
  3. Spearheaded development of a new Engineering Department Exam bank, greatly increasing the quality of qualification exam questions and improving the efficiency of the qualification process.
